An attack stopped in time
Last weekend, the website of the Veneto Regional Council was targeted by a Russian hacker group, which claimed responsibility via the Anonymous Russia Telegram channel. Thanks to the prompt reaction and professionalism of the internal IT team, the attack was neutralized, avoiding major consequences for the digital services offered to citizens.
The President of the Regional Council, Roberto Ciambetti, stressed how the effectiveness of the adopted measures made it possible to contain disruptions and protect sensitive data, expressing his gratitude to the staff for their work.
The role of the Regional CERT
To further strengthen its defenses, the Veneto Region has chosen to rely on the Regional CERT (Computer Emergency Response Team), an advanced structure coordinating prevention, monitoring, and response to cyber incidents.
The Veneto CERT currently involves 38 regional entities, organized into 5 reference groups, and acts as a hub between local administrations, public companies, instrumental bodies, the Italian CSIRT, CNAIPIC, and other national or international organizations.
Mission and objectives
The mission of the Regional CERT is multifaceted and strategic:
- providing technical support and assistance in managing cyber incidents;
- spreading timely information on emerging threats and ongoing attacks;
- promoting security management processes and preventive actions;
- enhancing the specialized skills of security staff;
- improving the overall cyber resilience of institutions and the digital services provided to citizens.
In short, it represents a true digital shield protecting the entire regional system.

“The attack was foiled thanks to the security systems of our IT infrastructure, which minimized disruptions to users. I sincerely thank our staff for the quality and effectiveness of their work,” said President Ciambetti.
This episode confirms that cyber security is no longer just a technical issue for experts, but a strategic priority to ensure the continuity of public services and the protection of citizens’ data.
