A targeted cyberattack
The X account of Guido Crosetto, Italy’s Defense Minister, was hacked. The Defense Ministry confirmed the breach, describing it as a “cyberattack” with unauthorized parallel management of posted content.
The suspicious posts
During the evening, fake messages appeared asking for cryptocurrency donations: one allegedly for Giorgio Armani’s funeral, another regarding the Gaza issue. Both were quickly removed.
Official Defense Ministry statement
Through an institutional post, the ministry clarified that “the contents are not attributable to the Minister nor to the Ministry” and that “work is underway with the competent authorities to restore full security.”
Crosetto’s reaction
Crosetto himself wrote in a later deleted post: “It’s as if they could manage the account simultaneously with me.” He also mentioned his intention to request the account’s suspension until full recovery.
