  • Training and awareness: the keys to the future

Piedmont is positioning itself as one of the leading Italian regions in strengthening essential services in healthcare by implementing the guidelines of the National Cyber Security Agency (ACN).

The healthcare sector is particularly vulnerable to cyberattacks, which can lead to devastating consequences such as the shutdown of operating rooms, intensive care units, and blood transfusion centers

A conference to assess digital security

These concerns were the focus of the conference “Cyber security in the Healthcare Sector,” held in the Transparency Hall of the Piemonte Skyscraper. The event was attended by key figures, including Piedmont’s Regional President, Alberto Cirio, ACN Deputy Director General, Nunzia Ciardi, and Regional Health Councillor, Federico Riboldi

During the event, President Cirio and Councillor Riboldi emphasized the importance of collaboration with Azienda Zero and CSI Piemonte, two key entities for an integrated cyber defense strategy. The Region is working rapidly to comply with the NIS2 security regulation, with a crucial deadline set for February 28

The healthcare sector: a prime target for cybercriminals

According to Nunzia Ciardi, the healthcare sector is increasingly targeted by cyberattacks, worsened by the malicious use of Artificial Intelligence. Hospitals, nursing homes, and emergency rooms are constantly at risk, with cyberattacks increasing by 50% in the first half of 2024.

This trend highlights the urgency of a systemic, widespread, and integrated approach to healthcare cyber security

Training and awareness: the keys to the future

Regulatory measures alone are not enough to counter cyber threats. Investment in education and awareness at all levels of public and private healthcare is crucial.

The concept of “cyberbiosecurity”, which integrates cyber security and healthcare, is becoming a cornerstone of citizen protection. Only with a long-term strategy can a secure and resilient healthcare system be ensured.
