At the ITASEC25 conference in Bologna, dedicated to cyber security, the General Director of the National Cyber Security Agency (ACN), Bruno Frattasi, emphasized Italy’s leading role in adopting the NIS 2 directive.

This regulation aims to strengthen digital infrastructure protection and has been swiftly implemented in Italy, making it one of the first European countries to integrate these new cyber security measures.

Why NIS 2 is crucial

The NIS 2 directive expands the range of public and private entities required to ensure high cyber security standards. Critical sectors such as healthcare, often targeted due to the value of sensitive data, are now included in the new regulatory framework.

By February, all affected entities must register on the ACN platform, initiating a cyber security improvement process through a bottom-up approach.

ACN’s role in security strategy

The ACN will define the cyber security standards that operators must adopt, ensuring compliance with European regulations and enhancing the security of the common digital market.

The increasing interconnection among the 27 EU countries, with growing commercial, industrial, and healthcare exchanges, demands strict measures to prevent threats and ensure digital resilience

Balancing security and efficiency

Frattasi used the metaphor of a “sphere” to describe a secure and integrated digital ecosystem where competitiveness, efficiency, and security coexist.

A regulated and protected market ensures that all players adhere to shared standards, allowing the European Union to maintain a leadership role in global cyber security

A shared commitment for the future

The ACN, in collaboration with other national and European agencies such as ENISA, continues to work towards improving digital infrastructure protection. The goal is to build a system capable of responding to cyber threatseffectively, ensuring data protection and digital network security.
